CREATING OASIS IN THE SEA: THE OCEAN CITIZEN PROJECT
A comprehensive program that combines ecological restoration with social involvement and economic benefits for local communities will be presented. The OCEAN CITIZEN proposal responds to this need through an innovative approach that includes a restoration toolbox tested in five different marine ecosystems, the creation of the profession of “sea gardeners” and the restoration of marine forests through eco-engineering. The project also guarantees citizen participation, incorporates a complete business plan and ensures the continuity of the project beyond its duration.
Sergio Rossi is a researcher specialized in marine natural resources and biological oceanography. His research focuses mainly on indicators of global change stress in benthic populations, as well as on the conservation and restoration of benthic fauna. He is currently an associate professor at the University of Salento and a professor at the Universidade Federal do Ceará, and is the coordinator of the OCEAN CITIZEN project (Horizon Europe).
