This project has been carried out in the framework of the collaboration with ICTA-UAB to supervise the master’s thesis of the master’s degree “Political Ecology, Degrowth and Environmental Justice”. In this context, Igor Živkovic, who has a master’s degree in “Globalization and Development” and a master’s degree in “Social and Economic Sciences”, has been analysing how Barcelona’s business leaders perceive the problem of climate change and to what extent the view of degrowth as an alternative is accepted. Starting from these questions, we conducted several in-depth interviews with business leaders and specialists. The research began in April 2020 and ended last January.

We found that business leaders are very concerned with climate change, but that this rarely leads to strategic business changes. Degrowth is not seen as a viable solution. This information is especially of interest to people interested in advancing Barcelona’s path to sustainability.
