Torrelles de Llobregat applied the first pay-as-you-throw experience in Spain, where every household and commercial activity paid the waste charge according to the amount and type of waste generated.
The Catalan Waste Agency, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and the Municipality of Torrelles de Llobregat commissioned to ENT Environment and Management the design and implementation of the new taxation system and its communication to the population.
Derived from the project, several articles have been published in scientific journals. Some of them can be found in the Publications section of this website.
