This project, financed by the “Commission for Universities and Research of the Department of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise of the Generalitat de Catalunya” took shape in two research framed within the PhD program of the Department of Applied Economics at the UAB . These have been made by Jaume Freire González (ENT) and led by Dr. Emilio Padilla Rosa (UAB) and Dr. Ignasi Puig Ventosa (ENT).
The first, titled “Energy efficiency and use of resources: review of the empirical evidence of the direct rebound effect”, conducted a thorough review of the existing literature on the direct rebound effect. The second, titled “Energy efficiency and resource consumption: an estimate of the rebound effect in Catalonia”, conducted an analysis of the main theoretical and methodological developments for estimating the direct rebound effect, and an estimate of this for homes in Catalonia .
The rebound effect includes mechanisms that make improved energy efficiency does not end up producing energy saving potential, or even end up increasing consumption.
