The ReWoW project (“Revolutionizing the Waste of Waste”), funded by the Horizon Europe program within the framework of the EIC Pathfinder Open 2025, held its kick-off meeting on May 12 and 13, 2026 at the Casa de la Convalenscència at the UAB. This highly disruptive initiative seeks to transform digestate —a currently underutilized by-product— into valuable resources within the circular bioeconomy.

The meeting brought together the consortium partners to share the objectives, governance structure and first activities of the different work packages, including WP5 led by the ENT Foundation, focused on the development of value chains and the analysis of social and political dimensions. The program included technical sessions, joint working dynamics and parallel meetings to align methodologies between different disciplines, as well as a visit to the facilities of the GICOM group (UAB). The consortium is formed by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (coordinator), the UAB Research Park Foundation, the ENT Fundació, the Università degli Studi di Milano, the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, AERIS tecnologías ambientales and WINGS ICT Solutions. Together, the project will develop the modular adaptive fermentation (MAF) technology, combining microbial bioconversion and artificial intelligence to convert digestate into high-value added bioproducts such as biosurfactants, aromatic compounds and improved soil amendments.
