The Can Planas landfill (closed) is located in the municipality of Cerdanyola del Vallès, just 300 meters from the city, which occupies around 18 hectares and a volume of 2.45 million m3. The landfill, due to its location and dimensions, is an element to be taken into account in the development of the Cerdanyola del Vallès Directional Center.
The study commissioned to ENT Environment and Management offered a diagnosis of the past activity of the landfill, the administrative and urban situation and its current environmental problems. It aimed to analyze whether the application of an integrated approach to landfill mining, through which the mining of present resources was used both to recover valuable resources and to condition the space, could be viable for the landfill of Can Planas. Additionally, a series of analyzes and conversations with experts were offered on the possibility of applying soil decontamination techniques on the site.
