Circular economy is at the core of environmental policies in the EU. The circular economy is a management approach that seeks to preserve the value and useful life of materials throughout the entire value chain, maximizing the efficiency of material use within the economy and reducing waste generation. From the design phase to waste recovery, the circular economy aims to close material loops required by economic processes.
At ENT, we support public administrations and companies in designing circular economy plans and in calculating and interpreting the indicators needed for their monitoring.
We map needs and priorities, set objectives, propose instruments, and provide organizations with a monitoring framework to track progress.
We are experts in developing circular economy indicator frameworks for local and regional administrations as well as for companies. Building on Eurostat’s harmonized circular economy indicator framework, and leveraging our strong expertise in developing material flow accounts, we create indicator frameworks aligned with international standards and adapted to each stakeholder’s context (municipal circular economy plans, regional quality monitoring, sectoral assessments). These indicators are used to evaluate the impact of policies implemented to increase the circularity of the economy.
We include the design of economic and fiscal instruments within circular economy plans. We support the design of instruments at local, regional, and national levels (e.g., waste charges and pay-as-you-throw systems, landfill and incineration taxes, extended producer responsibility, deposit–return schemes, other LCAs, LCCs) and conduct research on the application of these tools.
ENT has supported various stakeholders in designing their circular economy plans, in developing circular economy indicator frameworks , in developing economic instruments, and in identifying sectoral priorities for material efficiency.
