The journal Ecología Política invites authors to send their article proposals for its next issue, number 66.

«Biodiversity»

Loss of habitats, appearance of invasive species, climate change, overexploitation of natural resources or environmental pollution are some of the main factors that triggers the loss of biodiversity on our planet.

Loss of biodiversity is a critical problem, which is interrelated with climate change and puts at risk the viability of human societies. Addressing this issue requires the collaboration of governments, social and environmental organizations, local communities, etc. However, there is no easy solution within an indefinite growth of the current economic system, nor the consequent, constant and growing human pressure on ecosystems.

However, the institutional sphere approaches tend to suffer from a biased view of the problem. From the so-called “Nature Based Solutions”, conceptualized in the early 2000s by the IUCN and the World Bank, to the Convention on Biological Diversity latest agreements, institutions continue to prioritize techno-corporate interests and the growth of global capitalism. Thus, “nature” is not perceived as “territory”; that is to say, institutions still not conceive nature as a vital space inseparable from the cultures, agroecosystems, and other ways of life for communities that take care for nature and that recognize themselves as an inalienable part of it.

This issue of Ecología Política tends to illustrate these disputes, sharing different perspectives on the following thematic shafts:

– Links between biodiversity and climate crisis

– Links between biodiversity crisis and planetary boundaries.

– Social criticism to Nature Based Solutions and the concept of payment for environmental services.

– Greenwashing linked to biodiversity.

– Critics on the Convention on Biological Diversity

– Biodiversity values. Plurality of values and debates within the IPBES

– Socio-environmental conflicts related to biodiversity

This issue will be published in DECEMBER 2023

PROCEDURE AND DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION

The submission of articles will take place in two steps.

  1. Article proposal submission (250 words max.). Deadline: 8th September 2023

Once received, the proposals will be evaluated by experts in the subject and by the issue’s guest editors. The authors whose proposals are selected will be invited to send a complete manuscript. The invitation to submit the full manuscript does not ensure its publication, as manuscripts will then undergo a further review process.

  1. Submission of the final version of the article (to be translated from English to Spanish, if necessary): 4th October 2023.

Both abstracts and the final versions of the articles have to be sent to the following e-mail address: articulos@ecologiapolitica.info
