Economic instruments for waste management

This document is part of the publication “Handbook on alternative waste management schemes”, published by the association Zero Waste Europe. It includes a description of the main economic instruments applied to waste management: product taxes, taxes on landfill and incineration of waste (including a comparison of the taxes applied in different member states of the European Union) and rates waste with a specific description of the pay-as-you-throw systems.
