On Wednesday, October 18, the “Landfill Mining. Trends and Opportunities ” Conference was held at the Palau Robert in Barcelona. Co-organized by EIT RawMaterials, the Waste Agency of Catalonia, the General Council of Chambers of Commerce of Catalonia and WasteResource.
The aim of the day was to present and / expand knowledge about this new prospect of landfill mining (the so-called “Enhanced Landfill Mining”) supporting the evolution towards a Circular Economy model, by reducing the environmental impact of the elimination and at the same time promoting the recovery of waste materials and energy. It counted on the participation of numerous experts and consultants involved in the study and the development of pilot tests related to the matter. Maria Calaf, ENT member and co-author of the report “Urban Mining: Extraction of Landfill Resources” published by Fundación Mapfre in 2013, presented the main results on the potential of landfill mining in Spain.
