On 24-25th January the kick-off meeting of the Naturvation H2020 project took place in Durham (UK). A representation of all partners met there and discussed the main organisational and scientific aspects of the project, which starts now and will last until 2020, under the leadership of Durham University.
Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) has the potential to respond to climate change, enhance biodiversity and improve environmental quality while contributing to economic regeneration and social well-being. To unlock the potential of NBS, NATURVATION will take a transdisciplinary approach to: advance assessment approaches to capture the multiple impacts & values of NBS; enable innovation to identify the most promising governance, business/finance and participation models; and generate momentum to realise the potential of NBS through co-design, co-development & co-implementation of new partnerships, knowledge, recommendations, processes and tools required to build capacity, enable replication and foster cultural change.
ENT will lead a local Urban Research Innovation Partnership (URIP) based in Barcelona. The URIP will provide the basis for research aimed at understanding and assessing the value of nature-based solutions for different sectors of society. We will contribute to the following activities: mapping existing nature-based solutions in the city-region, evaluating their impacts, learning from different communities what benefits they bring, developing new tools for assessing their value, working with other city-regions to understand how to scale up nature-based solutions and sharing experience and best practice. Several URIP meeting will take place throughout the project. We will also contribute to other aspects of the project.
