Incineration overcapacity and waste shipping in Europe: the end of the proximity principle

This study was commissioned by the Association GAIA (Global Alliance for Incineration Alternatives) in 2013. The aim is to analyze the european market for waste incineration and transport between states. It analyzes incineration capacities of each member state and identifies those that have excess capacity and forecast construction of new incinerators in 2020 horizon. It analyzes data transport waste between countries, the environmental impacts of transport and incineration of waste.
