Over the next few weeks, in the framework of the Fishing Restriction Areas project “Protecting vulnerable marine ecosystems and habitats of special fishing interest in the Mediterranean”, Miquel Ortega (ENT Foundation) will participate in the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) in Athens (Greece) from November 4 to 8 and in the Mediterranean Advisory Council (MEDAC), which will take place in Rome on November 12. Specifically, he will participate in the implementation group of the Regulation on technical measures, and in the implementation session of the MAP Wmed regulation on demersal species.
Mediterranean Fisheries Restricted Areas is a project that aims to promote new areas in the Mediterranean where fishing is restricted to non-destructive modallities, as well as reinforcing existing ones. These areas have vulnerable ecosystems and/or are strategic for the recovery of fish stocks. The project is coordinated by MedReact and is carried out with partners in France, Italy, Great Britain and Brussels.
