The journal Ecología Política celebrated its 25th anniversary on 11th of March, 2016, with a special event in Espai Contrabandos of the Pollen Edicions, Barcelona. As part of the celebration, Joan Martínez Alier talked about the history of the journal and how it was founded; Ignasi Puig explained the period in which Fundació ENT took it over and why they were interested in carrying on the journal after the 30th edition; Santiago Gorostiza presented the special issue 50, in which we tried to bring many scholars and different political ecology journals together, and touched upon the issues related to recent changes and improvements; and Mariana Walter informed the audience about the forthcoming 51st edition. More than 60 people from social movements, NGOs and academic institutions interested in political ecology and many people that collaborated in different periods with the journal joined us to celebrate the special issue and our 25th anniversary.
The journal Ecología Política also plans to organize other events for the celebration of its 50th edition in Madrid in order to gain a greater audience and to collaborate with different initiatives and editorials. Additionally, as part of the dissemination events that we organized for the celebration of 50th edition, we are currently running a campaign, in which a new subscriber can give another subscription for free to any person he or she wants (for more information, please see: www.ecologiapolitica.info).
In the recent period, the entire team of the journal have been making an effort with several improvements as well. Especially with the new webpage, visits to our website (www.ecologiapolitica.info) have more than doubled after its launching in December, 2015.
Now, in our webpage, the access to previous issues of Ecología Política is much easier in pdf format. It has become much more user-friendly and easy to share and disseminate to other people that might be interested in it. Additionally, the interested readers can now find each number of the journal in Dialnet and search for authors and articles also separately.
Meanwhile, we are also collaborating with a reading group on Political Ecology in Barcelona and intend to reach a wide range of Spanish-speaking people from different countries by distributing the journal in international conferences such as the Latin American Congress of Political Ecology in Chile, the International Congress of Patrimony, Territory and Buen Vivir in Chiapas, ENTITLE Undisciplined Environments conference in Stockholm, AAG Conference in San Francisco, and in other spaces of political and environmental debates.
The next issue 51 of the journal will be focusing on the “Political ecology in Latin America”, and it has already drawn a lot of attention with a great number of article proposals from different countries of Latin America. The issue will be published at the end of June, 2016, and we hope to disseminate it widely in Latin American countries. Invited editors for the forthcoming number on Latin America are Gustavo Garcia Lopez, Mariana Walter and Marien Gonzalez Hidalgo who are specialists on a variety of political ecology topics in different countries from Latin America.
